Educational Freedom is pleased to make our brand new Home Education Training Manual freely available to Local Authorities, professionals and home educating families.
This training was developed throughout 2026, following years of working directly with home educating families, Local Authorities and professionals across the UK. Whilst many existing resources focus primarily on legislation and process, this training also aims to provide insight into the lived experiences of home educating families and the many different ways that suitable education can look. Please note whilst this training is primarily written for use in England, much of the content is applicable to the rest of the UK.
Educational Freedom was founded on the principle that accurate information and good practice should be accessible to everyone. We therefore make our resources publicly available and free to access, allowing families, Local Authorities and professionals to work from the same information base.
The training is intended to encourage understanding, improve communication and support proportionate, lawful and constructive engagement between Local Authorities and home educating families.
We recognise that Local Authority staff often work within complex systems and with competing demands. This training is not intended as criticism, but as a practical resource to support good practice and promote better outcomes for children and families.
The training may be read as a complete manual or individual modules can be used independently as reference material for specific topics. We also offer in person/video call training which offers opportunities for discussion.
We welcome feedback from Local Authorities, professionals and home educating families to help ensure the resource continues to evolve and reflect both legal developments and lived experience.
