Annual request for information about Home Education

If your Local Authority (LA) is making a request for information, please remember:

• You are not required to accept a home visit or a phone/video call. You may choose to provide information in writing instead, we suggest using our report-writing guide.

• Only provide a written report if the LA has specifically requested an update (they may only be asking for confirmation of home education continuing). 

• You are not legally obliged to provide copies or photographs of your child’s work.

• If the LA requests samples of work, we recommend reading our guidance on this subject before responding.

Where you do choose to provide a written update, we suggest sending it alongside an edited version of the template below.

Suggested covering response (edit as needed)

In response to your letter/email/phone call/visit of [insert date], we wish to decline the meeting or call offered.

We are well supported both locally and nationally and will contact your service should we require support in the future.

If the LA contacted you by phone, include:
We respectfully request that all future correspondence be made in writing. Please remove our contact details from your website and records.

Please find attached information relating to our child’s educational provision and resources.

Confirmation of receipt would be appreciated.
