We’re going to keep this quite simple, we don’t yet fully know what to expect, except that it could be a battle, but it usually is so we are used to that. There’s likely going to be a register of home educators, and there will be new EHE guidance. Neither of which anyone fully knows their content or how they’ll be actioned.
Things you can do:
Watch the Kings speech on Wednesday the 17th July at 11.30am, available on parliament tv. And don’t panic at what you hear. It’s most likely going to talk about identifying children missing education and how they’re going to do a register of home educated children. Whilst we had hoped Labour would scrap the register it seems they still think it’s a good idea.
Keep a close eye on our website blog and social media accounts for updates on what is happening. We will let you know how you can be involved in changing the government opinion, it is likely to involve writing to your MP.
And finally, make sure you and anyone you know/see post on social media, ensure their LA sticks to the current rules and laws and guidance. DO NOT ALLOW them to behave as if things have changed.
What will Educational Freedom do? We will fight, and ensure your voices are heard. We will consult with the government, we will provide advice and information to them to hopefully ensure the fairest possible outcome. We will work alongside other groups and organisations to provide a large collective voice. And we won’t go down without a fight. We will, of course, continue to keep you updated. So watch this space.
