• Advice from Home Educators

"Relax, take time and get to know your child again. Go back to what it was like when they were toddlers and do the kinds of things you did then, bake, art, play, crafts, go for walks, watch stuff on tv, have fun. Lay off formal stuff for a little while, then see what works for your child and go with that."

Guidelines for home-educated families visiting at the Learning rate

Children 5-15 years old £3.85

16 years and over £5.40

Under 5 Free of charge

For Kensington Palace, children up to and including the age of 15 years are free of charge. Children 16 years and over are £4.10 each. 1 adult can be admitted free of charge per family unit. Any additional adults are charged at the group rate of £19.80 for Tower of London, £15.75 for Hampton Court Palace and £14.31 for Kensington Palace. This is true if they are booking for one family, or a large group consisting of multiple families These rates are only available on a week day during term time. If families are visiting outside of these times, they cannot book any sessions and must visit at the standard ticket rate. If it is a group of 15 or more, they would be entitled to the standard group rate. These prices are correct for the 2015/2016 academic year

Booking sessions

Home educators can book onto sessions. At the time of booking, it must be stressed that everyone participating in the workshop must be the appropriate age, i.e. if they are booking Knights, Castles and Kings, all the children participating must be KS1-age. If there is a range of ages, we would advise that they do not book sessions, however common sense should be used. For example, if the group consists of children aged 6-8 year olds, it could be possible to book a KS1 session. Sessions cost £93.00 per session and we cannot offer any discounts. Sessions can hold no more than 35 children. Regardless of the amount of adults booked in total with the group, we can only accommodate adults on a 1:10 ratio (or 1:5 for a KS1 session). This is for health and safety reasons and due to space available in the classrooms or on routes. It is the responsibility of the group to ensure that this information is passed on to the group. We reserve the right to ask adults to leave the session if numbers exceed this. The only exception to this would be if a child needs specific 1:1 support, for example if one child was a wheelchair user and required extra support to fully participate in the session.

On the day

On the day of the visit, group leaders are responsible for picking up tickets for the whole group and distributing them. It is also the responsibility of the group leader to inform families of the restrictions in place for adults in sessions.
